- A Reach-Out to Prospective Members. The members of 13L -- Scott Derrick, Don Jacobson, Jeffrey Vargas, Mike O'Leary, Jeri Buchholz, Patricia Armstrong, Gail Williams, and Kitty Wooley -- are currently meeting with prospective members from across federal departments and agencies. - Quarterly Business Meeting. The members and advisors of 13L are to meet on September 14 to formulate plans for partnering with other good government organizations in carrying out the group's goal of promoting effective leadership in the federal government. Stay tuned for more information on this important effort!
- Viewpoint on Leadership. In this month's Viewpoints column, member Kitty Wooley discusses the book Good to Great and the Social Sectors: Why Business Thinking is Not the Answer by Jim Collins. Kitty notes that for those who thirst to make a difference, whether they be executives, first-line supervisors, or individual contributors, this book is a stimulating read.
- 13L Member Transitions to New Assignment. Congratulations to Don Jacobson on his new assignment as Director of the Consular Training Division at the Department of State's Foreign Service Institute. His colleagues at 13L wish him continued success in his leadership role of promoting better management in the public sector.

Member Jeffrey Vargas was quoted in an article on HispanicBusiness.com about federal agencies, corporations, and nonprofit organizations providing an environment of support for young Hispanics who have the potential to become ideal candidates for internships or other hiring programs in the coming years.
