- A Reach-Out to Prospective Members. The members of 13L -- Scott Derrick, Don Jacobson, Jeffrey Vargas, Mike O'Leary, Jeri Buchholz, Patricia Armstrong, Gail Williams, and Kitty Wooley -- are currently meeting with prospective members from across federal departments and agencies. To learn more about membership in 13L, please check out the Q&As for Prospective Members.
- Quarterly Business Meeting. Members and advisors of 13L met on September 14 to formulate plans for partnering with other good government organizations in carrying out the group's goal of promoting effective leadership in the federal government. The group heard great words of wisdom about leadership development from Carol Willett, Chief Learning Officer, Government Accountability Office. Also, Patricia and Kitty showed us their scarf juggling skills!
- Viewpoint on Leadership. In this month's Viewpoints column, member Gail Williams discusses the book Leadership Made Simple: Practical Solutions to Your Greatest Management Challenges by Ed Oakley and Doug Krug. Gail highlights the authors' five steps for success in making the case for why leaders should focus on strengths and solutions rather than weaknesses and problems.
- GovLeaders.org Highlights Interesting Information on Followership. 13L member Don Jacobson has posted some interesting articles about followership on the always useful GovLeaders.org site. Don notes that followership is also often referred to as "leading up," "managing up," or "leading from the middle." Check out the articles here.
